Hello World!

Who am I? I’m a Data Scientist, currently focused on utilising predictive analytics to drive business profitability and decision-making in the finance sector. I possess a strong passion for research and interested in leveraging big data and high-performance computing to develop data-driven solutions. My experience lies in applying Data Science techniques to optimise systems, processes, products, and ultimately improving operational efficiency. With a proven track record in both scientific and financial domains, I bring creativity and extensive knowledge to my role as a data scientist.

Thank you for visiting my little corner of the internet located somewhere in the cloud. This is my professional website where I write about things some consider serious. But don't take me too seriously as I speak meme. You are welcome here... You can check my resume below. I hope to write some interesting blogs soon!

My Resume / CV

  • Work Experience

  • Data Scientist

    African Bank - 2022 - Current

Working on predictive analytics and decision sciences in the credit space. My current work involves mining big transactional and credit data to find patterns that can be leveraged and used to build and train machine learning models in order to optimise processes and develop new products.

  • Data Scientist

    South African Weather Service - 2021 - 2022

Taking advantage of a vast observational network and model data to develop cutting-edge data-driven systems and products for operational purposes.

  • Research Scientist

    South African Weather Service - 2020 - 2021

My work was with the Model Development group, focusing on numerical weather prediction and climate modelling. I also did research on weather and climate dynamics.

  • Research Intern

    South African Weather Service - 2018 - 2020

Learned a lot of programming and understanding some code development processes. Worked on several codes, and going behind models to see how they are developed, coded, run. Learned some analysis techniques and applied some of those in my research work. Did a lot of scientific and technical reading and writing.

  • Education

  • Master of Science (MSc)

    University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) - 2019 - 2022

    Passed with distinction

Research project: Evaluating the ability of atmospheric models in simulating boundary layers in the Southern Hemisphere.

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) (Honours)

    University of Pretoria (Tuks) - 2017 - 2018

I had the privilege of doing my research project with the now late Professor George Djolov, an internationally recognised research scientist in the field of Physics. He supervised my research where I performed a statistical analysis of numerical model output. I managed to obtain a cum laude pass for this project and had it peer-reviewed for a conference’s publication and oral presentation.

  • Bachelor of Science (BSc)

    University of Pretoria (Tuks) - 2012 - 2017

Modules in: Meteorology, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Geometrical and Space Geodesy, Advanced Remote Sensing Techniques, Geographic Data Analysis, and Programming.

  • High School

    Thuto Ke Maatla Comprehensive (TKM) - 2007 - 2011

Grade 12: Distinctions in Mathematics, Physical Sciences, and Life Orientation.

  • Other Specialised Training

/1/ University of Cape Town (UCT) - Discretisation methods and numerical data analysis - 2020

/2/ South African Weather Service - Machine Learning and data analytics - 2019

/3/ South African Weather Service - Android mobile applications development - 2018
